Six Flags Friends is a series of programs throughout the Six Flags family of parks that make a difference in communities by encouraging local involvement, supporting the mission of various non-profit organizations and bringing the thrill of Six Flags to children and families across North America.
Six Flags Friends is a proud supporter of hundreds of organizations throughout our Six Flags communities. Through our national partnerships, we successfully utilize our geographic span to make a difference as a unified family of parks. Hurricane Harbor New Jersey is also pleased to support the work of organizations that make an impact in our surrounding neighborhoods. It is the work of the organizations below that truly make our cities a better place to live, work and enjoy.
Fighting Against Breast Cancer
For nearly 15 years, Six Flags Great Adventure has proudly hosted a charity walk or run for Susan G Komen Foundation. Together, we have raised more than $13 million for the fight against breast cancer. Formerly the “Race for the Cure,” the park now hosts the “More Than Pink” Walk each fall.
Supporting Grassroots Community Initiatives
Six Flags Great Adventure proudly supports schools, Veterans organizations, animal rescues, disability, mental and emotional health associations, local fire, police and EMS, diversity and inclusion programs, the arts, and countless additional non-profit organizations through its monthly ticket donation program. With the help of Donation Match, Six Flags is able to communicate directly with deserving, local charities and give back to the communities that have helped to support the park for nearly 50 years.
Powering Thrills by the Sun
In 2019, Six Flags Great Adventure became the world’s first major theme park to be nearly fully powered by solar energy. This 23.5-megawatt solar project, in partnership with KDC Solar, ranks as New Jersey’s largest net metered solar project. It was a giant step toward becoming a net-zero carbon facility. The projects includes 11 MW of solar carports over three sprawling parking lots, 12.5 MW on 40 acres of ground-mounted panels, a net metering system that allows Six Flags to generate its own clean energy and export power to the grid to serve nearby homes and businesses, a dramatic reduction of the park’s reliance on harmful fossil fuels, and the preservation of more than 200 acres of forest, wetlands and wetlands transition areas – all while adding 99,000 hours of union labor to construct the project.
The Jackson theme park recycles more than 60 percent of its annual waste, including manure, paper, plastic, wood and mixed garbage. In addition, it has been converting to recycled furniture products, such as tables and park benches comprised of recycled plastic. The theme park eliminated the use of paper towels in favor of energy-efficient hand dryers and is firmly committed to other energy-saving programs. As conservationists for nearly 50 years, Six Flags Great Adventure has cared for more than 70 different species of animals, including some that are endangered and even extinct in the wild.
Filling Hearts and Bellies at the Holidays
During Holiday in the Park, Six Flags Great Adventure celebrates the season of giving through several charitable programs. Since 2020, the park has supported Fulfill in its annual food drive, benefitting food banks in Ocean and Monmouth Counties. Guests and team members are encouraged to make a donation of food in exchange for a fun Holiday in the Park giveaway. For several years, the park has supported the Buy One, Give One plush program that provides adorable stuffed animals to children in need, and donated $1 from every $5 Holiday Craze Mirror Maze attraction to a worthy local cause.
Empowering Youth
For more than 30 years, Six Flags Great Adventure has offered youth programs to support service, community engagement, leadership development, character building and inclusiveness. Events such as Key Club, Boy Scout Camporee, Student Council Day and Catholic Youth Rally impart valuable life lessons in a thrilling and welcoming environment. Through the park’s Academic Adventure programs, Six Flags transforms into an outdoor classroom to make learning fun at Physics Day, Biology Day and Business & Marketing Day. Finally, Six Flags Great Adventure helps its seasonal team members make continuing education a reality through its annual Scholarship Golf Outing. Throughout the years, the park has donated more than $2 million in college scholarships to its deserving team members.
Saving the World’s Animal Icons
Six Flags Wild Safari has been dedicated to animal conservation and education since 1974. The animal park participates in four key projects to help preserve some of the world’s most iconic animals, and teach future leaders the importance of animal conservation:
Save an Icon
Each year, the park produces and sells collectible animal pins. 100% of the proceeds support the Wildlife Conservation Network, whose efforts directly benefit animals in the wild. Since 2019, the park has raised $50,000.
Bald Eagle Program
Since 2005, Six Flags has partnered with the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey on a bald eagle banding project to protect and track this important national icon.
Bison Program
Since 2014, Six Flags has supported Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and the city of Fort Collins to execute a bison reproduction and reintroduction program. Together, we are successfully introducing American’s largest land animal back into the wild.
Monmouth University
Since 2012, Six Flags has partnered with Monmouth University to teach a 400-level field experience course on property where students learn about how psychology principles can be applied in an animal care setting.
